The Silence After a Loss
January 15, 2025

I was alone in the house cleaning up after making a batch of pumpkin bread. My energy was high in celebration as I just launched my book, The Pet I Can’t Forget on Audible. With holiday music in the background I sang along and as I wiped the kitchen counter. As I glanced toward the fireplace, I saw someone sitting quietly on my sofa holding up a book. I recognized her immediately. It was my departed mother-in-law, Maureen. She smiled as we made eye contact and in the blink of an eye, vanished.

In that split second, I felt a wave of love and goosebumps wash over me. Although we never met in person, I instantly knew Maureen was congratulating me. After a long, three-year journey, my book was complete and available worldwide. Uploading my book to Audible.com was the last stage of that journey. Maureen loved animals and I felt every ounce of her joy for my accomplishment.

Your loved ones are with you, too, and they never miss a holiday or special event. Whether you are missing a beloved animal companion or human loved ones, trust they are there. It may not feel like they are present but most of the time their energy is so subtle even sensitives like me can barely notice them.

It is okay to not be okay when waves of bittersweet memories from the past envelope you. That is a clear a sign your loved ones are near. In Chapter 46: Good Grief, of The Pet I Can’t Forget, you’ll discover all the ways that grief activates healing and strengthens the bonds with your loved ones.

Tell them right now how much you miss them. They will hear you and be fueled by your powerful sentiments. Trust they are right by your side surrounding you with love and gratitude as there is nowhere else they would rather be.

Never miss an update

Thank you for this post. My angel, Louie has appeared several times in the corner of my eye. I used to think it was just my imagination until I read your book. The Pet I Can’t Forget has helped me so much. I am still deeply grieving but now I encourage him to send signs and 9 out of 10 times, he does. I am forever grateful to you, Karen.

I get signs like this too. I know exactly what you mean. It is an indescribable feeling that you know it is them. My mom and my cat, Maple, make their presence known. I know they are together and your stories and podcasts have helped me reconnect with them. I have given all my friends your books and plan to keep gifting them in the future. I’m so grateful I found you.

    • It is incredible when it happens. It is easy to brush off as your imagination but once you know what to look for or how it feels, there is no denying what you see! Thank you for your kindness.
